This community engagement conference took place on Thursday 4th October 2018 at the Proact Stadium in Chesterfield.
We worked with Derbyshire County Council to organise a half-day conference that looked at addressing some of the issues in the Derbyshire area.
According to the Mental Health Foundation, mental health problems affect about 1 in 10 children and young people. We worked with Derbyshire County Council to organise a half-day conference that looked at addressing some of the issues in the Derbyshire area. The conference focused on getting the best out of the mental health services, effective approaches and useful resources for young people living in Derbyshire.
Kevin Buchanan from Newall Green High School chaired the event, and on the day welcomed over 100 people working within the region’s schools, colleges and youth agencies.
Abi Grocult, a Safeguarding Officer from Shirebrook Academy was one delegate who welcomed the opportunity to network;
“It’s been great to meet like-minded people who want to improve the support for young people who struggle with mental health difficulties.”
Our delegates also took part in workshops delivered by key speakers including Shane Chowen from the Association of Colleges, Barbara Lawton from the Charlie Waller Memorial Trust and Dr Kelly Hobbs from the Horizons Team.
Frances Newton, LCR Manager at Heritage High School, said;
“I’ve learned so much and I’ve been able to access a huge range of resources that will really benefit the staff and students in my school, so thank you!”
You can view the slides from most of the talks and workshops below.
