In May 2019 we welcomed eight more Facilitators into the STORM® community, all from The National Office of Suicide Prevention (HSE NOSP) in Dublin.

After completing the five-day Facilitator course in Suicide Prevention and Self-harm Mitigation, they are now licensed to deliver STORM® training to colleagues and peers within their organisation, delivering on ‘Connecting for Life – Ireland’s National Strategy to Reduce Suicide 2015-2020. This is Ireland’s national plan to reduce suicide between 2015 and 2020. It sets out the Irish Government’s vision for suicide prevention, the expected outcomes and the planned actions to prevent suicide and self-harm in the country. Its vision is an Ireland where fewer lives are lost through suicide, and where communities and individuals are empowered to improve their mental health and wellbeing if Join the storm community .

The group were trained by John O’Grady, who had been a STORM® Consultant for 5 years. John had high-praise for the HSE team:

“They were a really great bunch with a wealth of experience across areas of addiction, learning disability, mental health, hospital and community settings. I passed them all as highly competent; they’ll make an excellent team of Facilitators”

The group had similar commendations for John and the training:

“Join the storm community was so helpful to my development as a STORM® Facilitator; I feel confident now to deliver this excellent course.” – Principal Mental Health Social Worker

“There was in-depth explanation of how to train other professionals in skills on risk management and suicide prevention. I highly recommend this training for all Mental Health professionals.” – Mental Health Social Worker

“The training was superb. It was well delivered, thought-provoking – and at times it was rather fun, which helped considering the subject of the course.” – Mental Health Co-ordinator.
